He is one of the GOATs (Greatest Of All Time). He maintains the same mindset every single time. He might not have a strong ground game, but he has immense courage. No more negativity. Alex, bless you, you are a gangster. He`s one of the best champions of all time. Honestly, it’s truly impressive.”

This outpouring of praise marks a stark contrast to Rockhold`s stance in 2022. During a brief period of contemplating retirement, Rockhold suggested he might return to fighting if Pereira were to defeat Israel Adesanya. He famously called it a «free belt» due to what he perceived as Pereira`s exploitable grappling weaknesses at the time.
“If I get inspired, if someone inspires me to get back in it… you never know,” Rockhold had told Submission Radio. He continued, “That Brazilian guy winning the title – Alex Pereira. He`s going to have every wrestler in the game just chomping at the bit to get that guy. Let`s go. Let`s get the free belt. The only thing is you gotta fight Robert Whittaker or some [expletive] in between, it [expletive] hurt. To win or lose to Robert Whittaker, that [expletive] hurts. It’s going to hurt, we’re going to fight.”
