The Main Draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Under 18 World Championship in Doha, Qatar, concluded on Thursday, with eight formidable duos—five girls` and three boys` pairs—advancing directly to the Round of 16 with flawless records. This intense pool phase determined the 24 teams in each gender moving into the elimination rounds.
On Thursday, a total of 48 matches took place at the Al Gharafa courts, bringing the pool stage to an end for all 32 boys` and 32 girls` teams. The top three teams from each of the eight pools secured their spots in the elimination phase. Pool winners earned a direct pass to the Round of 16, while teams finishing second and third will compete in the Round of 24. Friday will feature both the Round of 24, Round of 16, and quarterfinals, leading up to the semifinals and medal matches on Saturday, where the champions will be crowned.
Among the girls` competition, five duos from the USA, Switzerland, Canada, and the Netherlands dominated their pools, remaining undefeated and not losing a single set. They now head straight to Friday`s Round of 16. The two American pairs, Jordyn Scribner & Ella Grimes (Pool A) and Avery Junk & Addison Junk (Pool B), both achieved straight-set victories on Thursday, securing their top positions with six points each.
Additional standout performances in the girls` category included Switzerland’s Anja Gähwiler & Noemi Eugster (Pool E), the Netherlands’ Esmee Radstake & Jara Both (Pool C), and Canada’s Ruby Cochrane & Sophie Hancock (Pool H), all of whom finished with a perfect 3-0 win-loss record and maximum six points, cementing their direct entry into the Round of 16.
“We faced tough European teams in the pools, which was beneficial as it prepared us. We’re thrilled to qualify directly for the Round of 16; it gives us a chance to observe our potential opponents in the Round of 24.”

Other girls` group leaders securing direct Round of 16 berths were Italy’s Sofia Bruzzone & Micol Lafuenti (Pool D), Belgium’s Lente Thant & Simone Vervloet (Pool F), and Germany’s Anna-Chiara Reformat & Rika Dieckmann (Pool G).
In the boys` competition, only three teams maintained an unblemished record: Germany’s Jonathan Bungert & Filo Wüst (Pool E), Ukraine’s Yehor Skrypnychenko & Andrii Lunkan (Pool B), and Brazil’s Thomas Mathias Endler & Felippe Prudencio Arruda Barbiero (Pool H). These three duos also swept their Thursday pool matches in straight sets, earning six points and a 100% win record, propelling them into the Round of 16.
Other boys` group winners heading to the Round of 16 included Italy’s Riccardo Santomassimo & Marco Di Felice (Pool G), Chile’s José Tomas Brain Zirpel & George Hargreaves Arentsen (Pool F), Austria’s Martin Poinstingl & Paul Hohenauer (Pool D), Estonia’s Armin Kender & Patrik Parijõgi (Pool C), and Türkiye’s Barış Güldali & Polat Kemal Eser (Pool A).
