Gustafsson, often remembered as one of the greatest fighters never to win a UFC title, boasting 18 fights in the light heavyweight division and classic encounters with Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, appears ready for a new chapter.
Reports from Swedish outlet Frontkick.online indicate that Gustafsson is in advanced negotiations with Misfits Boxing, the same promotion where Till has found success. Discussions reportedly include a potential bout against another former Octagon veteran.
Gustafsson previously retired from MMA in 2019, made a brief return, and was released from the UFC in December 2024. After a stint with GFL was curtailed by event cancellations, a move to boxing seems to be his next venture.
Jon Jones himself acknowledged Gustafsson as his toughest opponent during a June Q&A. Referring to their epic UFC 165 clash, Jones stated, «He was my best opponent… he really pushed me and he was the only person to take me down in the UFC. Man, he cut me open and made me dig really hard.»
Despite their first close battle, Jones later decisively defeated Gustafsson in their UFC 232 rematch for the vacant light heavyweight title.
